Adidas launched a mass production of sports shoes from recycled plastic

About eco-fashion is spoken long ago and loudly. But real steps to launch the production of environmentally friendly garments and shoes are not made by many. Most often it is one-time promotions for a particular brand, stopping at the project stage, and not bringing significant benefits to the environment itself ... An example to other manufacturers showed Adidas, having fulfilled a promise to sell in 2017 a million pairs of eco-sneakers.

The models UltraBOOST are released in collaboration with the company Parley for the Oceans. They are 95% composed of recycled plastic that was caught from the coastal waters of the Maldives. The main material in their production was plastic bottles and poaching fishing nets, and the remaining 5% are made from recycled raw materials.

Adidas has not lost the "face" in creating of ecological sneakers - the presented models are beautiful, comfortable and durable. They are released in the mega-popular Boost lineup, and became a welcome piece of professional runners' equipment.

The history of these eco-friendly models of sports shoes began back in early 2016, when the sports giant released the first limited lot in just 50 pairs. They were not on sale, people could get them only by participating in the Instagram competition. Its participants recorded a video, where they talked about how to get away from the disposable use of plastic. The best ideas were evaluated by the organizers of the competition, and their authors were encouraged by a unique pair of sneakers.

After it by the end of 2016, the company brought to the market the first large shipment of 7,000 eco-boosts. The novelty was successfully sold out. This trend inspired the company's leaders and Kasper Rorsted (CEO of Adidas) promised that over the next year will be sold at least one million of new models. And another milestone, set by the manufacturer, is 5 million pairs, which are planned to be implemented this year.

Meanwhile, a very impressive figure is still just a drop in the sea on the background of 450 million sold pairs of Adidas sneakers. But the eco-initiative of the company does not end there. In the next six years, the sports giant promises to make recycled plastic the basis for the production, not only shoes, but also T-shirts and other sportswear. For now only eco-sneakers are on sale, the cost of which is $ 220.

Adidas cooperation with Parley for the Oceans goes under the motto "When the problem becomes a solution". At first the company refused to use plastic bags, replacing them with paper bags. Now it is striving to completely exclude new plastic from the production chain, and replace it with recycled.

In addition, Adidas, as a co-founder of Parley, actively participates in its development, supports scientific work and public initiatives. The leader of the market with its own example proves that industry can change the technologies of its production and wrap them for good, not to the detriment of the environment.
